Want to Lose Fat? Don't Make These Mistakes!
By Steve Mutziger
In your quest to lose body fat, get a six pack and look great for
summer, you may be going about things the wrong way. Here are some
common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Crash Dieting:
This is pretty common for people who ate crap all winter and come May
are desperate to lose a few pounds before going on vacation, the class
reunion or other important event. Let me tell you in case you missed it
the first million times you have heard this: Crash Diets Do Not Work!
This is why they don't work. They usually involve a drastic calorie
reduction that while it may help you lose a few pounds at first, will
eventually slow your metabolism down. You'll often be hungry, irritable
and lack energy for effective workouts. Normally after a few weeks of
this, with minimal weight loss, you go back to eating you same crappy
way. That is until you begin another crash diet.....
A better way is to focus on whole, natural foods with plenty of fruits
and vegetables. Spread your calories out through the day. Eat plenty of
fiber and drink plenty of water. Don't drink calorie laden beverages.
This is a simple and effective eating plan that is safe and sustainable for a lifetime.
Doing Hundreds, if Not Thousands of Crunches:
Here is another mistake that I often see people making. Doing hundreds
or more reps per day of abdominal exercises will get you no closer to
getting a six pack.
No, you can't spot reduce!
Most people have a decent set of abs to begin with, it is the several
inches of fat covering them that is the problem! Lose fat and you will
see your abs! Pretty simple.
In order to see you abs, guys need to be at about 10% body fat, more or less depending on genetics.
The most effective way to see your six pack is to focus on whole body
weight routines that hit all your large muscle groups and burn the most
calories. By doing this, you will lose body fat and as long as your
nutrition is good, see your abs.
Ab gadgets and other late night TV ads
There is probably only 1 degree of separation when it comes to these
abdominal gadgets you see on T.V., meaning everyone knows someone that
has one. While the people that hawk these worthless things make money,
you get a new piece of junk you try and sell at a yard sale. These
things don't work, they never will and you know it. Save your money,
focus on your diet and proper training and leave the pie in the sky
promises to the other suckers!
Well, there you have it, a few common mistakes. I could write several
more but I will save that for another time. Avoid these common mistakes
and your fat loss efforts won't be in vain.
